Riverside Walk Project

This is your chance to get involved with the development of the Hedingham Riverside walk project.
A meeting was held in Sible Hedingham Village Hall on Monday December 1st 2008 which was well attended. You can read the minutes of that meeting by clicking here.

Halloween
The third annual Halloween event took place on the Recreation Ground on Friday 31st October. SHPC Chairman Jo Beavis judged the Fancy dress competition and declared it the most difficult job she had to do all year! Councillor Elspeth Jones dressed as a splendid witch, but it was a bit too cold for the little ones to sit and listen to her stories. Perhaps we will get her a heater next year. The ever popular egg and flour throwing event took place in a specially prepared arena. This is a joint event between SHPC, Hedinghams Youth Council, Essex Police, Braintree District Council, and the Youth Service and its main aim is to keep trouble off the streets, in which it is very largely successful. Any money raised is ploughed back into next year’s event, hopefully making each year better than the last. The first Halloween event in 2006 was the brian-child of PCSO Debbie Green and SHPC Vice-Chairman John Skittrall and we were delighted to welcome Debbie back this year - she is currently out of the village on a 6 month secondment. Debbie says she enjoyed seeing everyone again.

Tennis Courts & CCTV
Oct 08 - the old tennis courts have been re-fenced, resurfaced and lined as multi use games area (MUGA). The rest of the equipment will be arriving soon. CCTV has been installed to cover the toilet block, tennis courts and kiddies play area. Funding towards these projects was obtained from the Foundation for Sport and the Arts, Halstead Area Committee of Braintree District Council, We are hopeful of obtaining funds from Essex Environment Trust for equipment for the MUGA

The latest Flower tub
Monday 28th July saw the arrival of a sixth flower tub , now proudly standing on the green in Alderford St.

Litter Bins
We have obtained (at no cost to the Parish) 8 new litter bins. Some of the old litter bins will be re-sited to enable the new ones to be placed in the most sensitive areas - all the new bins were installed by the end of July

Flower tubs

On Wednesday 25th June 2008 Sible Hedingham became the proud home to 5 beautiful flower tubs, supplied by village resident Chris Jenkin’s company Enterprise Plants. We had, earlier in the year, been successful in obtaining some £800 of funding for this project from Braintree District Council which we hope will, at one level, bring pleasure to residents and visitors and at another level encourage residents to become stake-holders in their environment - indeed, every tub has a local resident prepared to water it and shower it with tender loving care.
Here are some snaps of the tubs going in. They are located by Earey’s Butcher’s shop, outside the Library, by the Bus shelter outside Brook House (2 there) and on the corner of Recreation Rd and Alexandra Road

New Swings
The swings on the kiddie’s playground had reached the end of their life, so the Parish Council sought, and obtained, funding from Braintree District Council for like-for-like replacements.
This is what the new swings are like.

Flood Lagoons
Two large flood lagoons have been built in Wethersfield Road, funded by Essex County Council. These should prevent a recurrence of the terrible floods we suffered in 1999, 2002 and 2003. The official opening was on Wednesday 18th June 2008. Here you can see Chairman Jo Beavis, Vice Chairman John Skittrall, Cllrs Ted Snarey and Fred Swallow, District Councillor Wendy Scattergood and County Councillor David Finch, who has been closely involved with the project from its inception.
