Your Parish Council is working hard to improve the appearance of the village and to make it a more pleasant place in which to to live and work. We have a number of projects in the pipe-line which we call our “Programme of Improvements”
We aim to;
  • Progress the Riverside Walk project. A meeting will be held in the Village Hall on December 1striverside walk
  • Continue with a programme of tubs and planting. We have already obtained permission from Essex County Council Highways Department to plant in a number of verges and road-side locations.
    • Start a programme of tree planting around the village.
    • Continue to liaise with Premdor management and its agents concerning the future use of the Premdor site if they re-locate out of the Village with the objective of obtaining some Community use on the site.
    • Provide allotments in the village (possibly on the Premdor site).

    Most of our residents are responsible, law-abiding citizens but, like any community, we have a few mavericks. The Parish Council is determined to crack down on;

    • Litter. Brian Hoadley does a splendid job in keeping our streets clean, but we also keep or eyes peeled for rubbish or fly-tipping and will call in the Clean Team from Braintree whenever neccessary. We will continue to organise “litter picks” for those areas that need only an occasional tidy-up.
    • Dog Fouling. The Parish Council has obtained a large quantity of “dog-poo” bags which are available free of charge from the Council Office in Swan St. We have requested that a Dog Warden visits more frequently than has happened in the past. The Dog Wardens WILL take action against dog-fouling. We also take a very dim view of people leaving their dogs off the lead in the Recreation Ground. Note: You may think your dog is the most harmless and lovable thing in the world, but if it is not on a lead it could upset, or be upset by, a small child and the consequences could be most unfortunate. Also if it is off the lead and strays away from you, how can you be sure you have scooped all the poop? Dog faeces can be very harmful to children.
    • Illegal Street Trading We have had a spate of bicycles and cars being traded illegally on our streets. This is most unfair to bona-fide traders who pay their rates and Business tax. We will do everything we can to stamp out this practice.
