IF THERE IS A FLOOD RISK

In the event of concern about flooding in Sible Hedingham or high river levels, or if the flood gates at Alderford Mill and Hulls Mill need opening, please contact the Environment Agency direct. The number to ring is 0800 807060. This could be a call centre in Sheffield, (or anywhere) and they will need to know where Sible Hedingham is. Please quote the following post codes, which will enable the Environment Agency to provide a speedy response;

Alderford Mill: CO9 3HX

Hulls Mill: CO9 3AL

Sandbags are available from the Parish Council - contact John Skittrall on 01787 461144.

The flood lagoons in Wethersfield Road appear to be working well. Here are some pictures taken by Wethersfield Road resident, Mrs Kay Beavis on Monday 10th February 2009. Mrs Beavis said “Please find attached some images showing the lagoons at work earlier today.  Without them our homes would most certainly have been flooded.”

A further flood risk occurred with heavy continuous rain and melting snow towards the end of February 2010. Thanks should go to Vice Chairman John Skittrall and his team for being on flood alert 24/7 and to Cllr Tony Law for monitoring the situation at Alderford Mill. Without their input the situation might have been a lot worse.
